Scope of the project

Type 4L-5500/2×3600 hoisting machine serves as the drive for mine shaft hoists in the R-II shaft of Zakłady Górnicze “Rudna” Section mining plant. It is a double-motor hoisting machine with a four-cable drive drum. It is used in a double-conveyance mining skip shaft hoist with compensating cables.

The modernisation of two skip hoisting machines of type 4L-5500/2×3600 included:

  • replacement of shafts, winders and bearing units,
  • installation of a monitoring and diagnostic system for hoisting machines and guiding pulleys,
  • reinforcement of the shaft tower at the foundation of the hoisting machines,
  • development of technical documentation for the entire scope of the task,
  • manufacture and delivery of components and systems,
  • commissioning of delivered components and systems.

4L-5500/2×3600 type hoisting machine

Comprehensive modernisation of the mechanical part of the two skip hoisting machines of the mine shaft hoist installed in the R-II shaft, taking into account the useful capacity of the skip of 33 Mg and the travel speed of 20 m/s, made it possible to achieve daily production of about 55 thousand tonnes, which is half of the daily production of the entire Copper Mining Complex.

Through the use of a monitoring and diagnostic system for hoisting machines and guiding pulleys, a significant improvement was achieved in the operational safety of the 4L-5500/2×3600 hoisting machine.

The presentation was delivered at the 21st Conference “ISSUES OF SAFETY AND HEALTH PROTECTION IN THE POLISH MINING INDUSTRY” organised by the State Mining Authority in cooperation with the Board of Directors of the Association of Mining Engineers and the Central Mining Institute on March 27 and 28, 2019, at the STOK Hotel in Wisła, Poland.

Technical specifications of the 4L-5500/2×3600 hoisting machine unit:

  • rated winding diameter of hoisting cables – 5500 mm,
  • number of hoisting cables – 4,
  • maximum travel speed – 20 m/s
  • acceleration/deceleration – 1.2 / 1.2 m/s2,
  • static load in two groups of hoisting cables – 2150 kN,
  • maximum static overload – 360 kN,
  • hoisting cables diameter – 52–56 mm,
  • distance between the axes of the hoisting cables – 450 mm,
  • hoisting cable breaking load – 2250 kN.
